I knew we were getting close when I made a trip to Wal-mart the other day and had to park in the back row of the parking lot, dodge crazy old ladies driving in the snow and had a good 12 minute wait to get checked out. The sad thing is I wasn't even there to do Christmas shopping. I better get on it though before things get really crazy.

Torment

This could be kind of a weird post but I'm hoping if I get something off my chest I will also be able to get it out of my mind. For some reason lately I've been (for lack of a better word) tormented by the memory of an ex-girlfriend and I can't figure out why. We dated off and on for about 8 months clear back in 2000 and I haven't seen or spoken to her for a good 3 1/2 years. As I look back on the relationship I realize how stupid I was for not kicking her to the curb months earlier. Maybe that is why I am haunted by her from time to time, just to remind me how stupid I was and not to be that way ever again. It was a hard lesson to learn and I am sure I will never forget it. That's why it makes me so irritated for even a second of my time to be wasted thinking about her. Hopefully now I can finally feel at peace.

December

It is hard to believe that we are now in December and 2005 is nearly over. You get to eat a bunch of food, watch some football and of course there is the annual Turkey Bowl. This past Saturday the elder's quorum hosted a Turkey Bowl. I originally hadn't planned on going but when I woke up Saturday I was in the mood to hit some people. It was a fun game. After about 15 minutes of playing touch football it was suggested that we start playing tackle. At first I wasn't sure about playing tackle, I had a really bad experience last December playing tackle football. I still don't remember the game but apparently I was playing with some friends and took a vicious blow to the head which resulted in a concussion and a case of amnesia. It is so weird to know that you've done something but have absolutely no recollection of it. Anyway we played some tackle football and I was able to come out of it with no head injuries, a couple of good tackles and a sack or two. The game really made me miss the good old days of playing high school football.

Stupid Refs

Two weeks in a row the Skins have been screwed out of a win by the Refs. Last week against the Bucs, Alstott was clearly down before the ball crossed the plain of the goal line for the game winning two point conversion. Then this past week against the Raiders, Jordan fumbles the ball as he tries to stretch it across the goal line. The Skins recover which would have prevented the Raiders from making the game winning kick but the refs give the ball back to Oakland saying that the runner was down when the ball came out. What a bunch of crap. I'm begining to wonder if those refs aren't making a little money on the side to influence the outcome of the games. I can't really say to much though, the Redskins have got to play better and then the game wouldn't keep coming down the the wire all the time.

Holy War

Utah - 41
BYU - 34

I rest my case.

Pics from the Trip2

<img style="DISPLAY: block; Mt. Rushmore

I decided to write about a road trip I took this past summer. The summer had been rather dull and uneventful and fall was quickly approaching. A couple of my friends and I had talked a few times about taking a road trip. We thought about Glacier Park in Montana or Magic Mountain in Cali but we really wanted to go somewhere that none of us had ever been before. Finally we decided to make a trip to South Dakota and see Mt. Rushmore. So we put the plan in motion and on August 9th we hit the road.

In an effort to see as much as possible we headed up though Idaho to Yellowstone and stopped at Old Faithful and a few other places. I had never seen Yellowstone Lake before and I must say it was quite amazing. We really had to hurry that first day though because they were working on the East entrance to the park and it was being closed nightly. We didn't want to get stuck in the park so we knew we had to be out of the park before the end of the day.

We were noticing a lot of motorcycles on the road but not enough to really raise any concerns. Besides who wouldn't want to ride a motorcycle through Yellowstone on a nice summer day. Well as we got further and further into Wyoming we started to see more and more bikes. We finally decided to stop in a small town called Greybull. It was there that we found out that the bike rally in Sturgis was just starting and finding a room for the rest of the trip was going to be a challange. I was excited to hear about the bike rally, I have heard of it many times and have often though how cool it would be to ride a bike out to Sturgis. Unfortunatly we weren't on bikes but I was excited just to see it.

We were lucky enough to find a room that night and the next day we were on our way again. We stopped in Sherdian to see my friends cousin and get the low down on Sturgis. He said he had never been but said they rarely had trouble with the bikers. He also mentioned a few places we should stop and see on our way to Rapid City.

We made a small detour to the north and saw a geological phenomenon called the Devil's Tower. It was really amazing. I'll try and post a picture of it later. By the time we had reached the Devil's Tower the number of bikes probably outnumber the number of cars 100 to 1. It was amazing. We continued on our way and reached Sturgis that evening. The number of bikes and bikers was mind numbing. We walked around for quite a while hoping to see the Tutels of Orange County Choppers or Jesse James of West Coast Choppers but it was to no avail. We did get a couple of souviners though. That night we spent in Rapid City. The next day we drove through the Black Hills, saw Mt. Rushmore and took a helicopter ride around Crazy Horse. It was my first time in a helicopter and it was really exciting. I couldn't help feeling a bit like Arnold as we "got to de choppa." On our way through Wright we saw one of those huge mining dump trucks parked outside a museum. Having never seen such a huge truck in real life we decided to stop. Turns out we had driven past one of the largest open pit coal mines in the world. The curator of the musem told us that the mine offered free tours so we called to main office and arranged for a tour of the mine. It was reallyinteresting to see all the huge machines. That night we stopped in Riverton.

I was really impressed with Riverton. It seemed to be a really nice town. That morning we hit the road toward Jackson (I couldn't pass up the chance to go there, especially when it has such a great name ha ha). We didn't see anyone famous while we were there but at least now I can say that Jackson has been to Jackson. We rolled into Sandy at about 10 that night. It was by far one of the best road trips I've been on in a long time.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://jacksonmontgomery.blogspot.com/2005/11/sturgis-mt-rushmore.html' title='Sturgis & Mt. I guess since it is a new experience for me I am more enthused and excited about it. The number of posts I make will probably start to fall off one the newness of it all wears off. That and when I start to realize that no one is reading this but me :)

Anyway, on to the topic of tonight. I went and saw the movie Jarhead this past weekend. I've always been the type of person who doesn't really care about what movies are rated. If it is rated G or R or anything in between and it peaks my interest I'll go see it. Usually the rated R movies I go see don't have much of an effect on me and I rarely feel uncomfortable while watching them. I usually go by myself or with friends of similar tastes if the movie might be a bit questionable. I highly doubt I would take a date to see a rated R movie but that's beside the point.

So I went to see Jarhead. I figured it might be a bit rough, being about Marines and what not. In my opinion it was way beyond rough. There was an unbelievable amount of swearing, full on sex and quite a few other things. I guess that might be what life is really like in the Marines but I definitely won't be seeing that movie again. I guess I should have gone to see Zorro instead.

Cougars

I hadn't planned on making another post today but my new friend Sam asked me about my views on BYU football. I posted a response in the comments to my Devious Plan post but decided I'd put the jest of it out here as well.

To all you Cougar fans out there who currently believe (or will soon join the bandwagon) that BYU should be right up there with USC and Texas in the national title race I have one thing to say to you, WAKE UP! BYU doesn't deserve the Rose Bowl or the Fiesta Bowl. They should feel lucky to get invited to the Potato Bowl playing Idaho State. Now don't get me wrong, I have been to a few Cougar games in my day but that was back when they had a legitimate claim to being good. That said, the day Lavell left Provo was the day BYU Football died. The church should take a page from their Rexburg chapter and eliminate the program before it causes more embarrassment. And if you insist on routing for the Cougars then at least lose with some dignity, instead of blaming it on the refs or some other bogus reason, try accepting the fact that the coaches are terrible, the players are washed up and the team in general is not good enough.

Go Skins

A Devious Plan

This past Sunday I really didn't feel like going to church. The Bucs were supposed to play the Redskins on Fox at 2 and with church starting at 1 I had a bit of schedueling conflict. My roommates are faithful church goers and I knew they wouldn't understand if I just told them I didn't want to go. So I came up with a plan to make them think I was going to church when in reality I skipped to watch the football game.

I told them I was going to visit a friends ward which also started at 1. They seemed to buy the story but to really sell the deal I went ahead on got dressed for church. I had a few errands I needed to run and I figured since I was skipping church I might as well take care of those errands. This brought me to another dilemma, I didn't really want to go around town while wearing my shirt and tie. So I threw a sweatshirt and hat in the car, loaded up my scripture case with Blockbuster movies and proceeded to go to "church."

The plan worked perfectly, I stopped at the park to do a quick change, headed over to Blockbuster to switch out the movies, made a quick stop at Jack in the Box and was back home ready for the game before kickoff. It was a thing of beauty.

This upcoming Sunday the Redskins vs. Raiders game is supposed to be on CBS so I'm working on a plan for that. Stay tuned.

My First Post

I'm not to savy with this blog thing but hopefully I will be able to post some interesting and funny things that I can look back on and enjoy.
